Caring For Your Candles

Styling at home

Palm beach candle collection

The simple act of lighting a candle can help soothe the soul and quiet the mind. With it’s soft flicker, warm glow and subtle fragrance, a candle adds a gentle ambience to your home that can induce calm and evoke relaxation. By making the home feel warm and welcoming, candles are a simple enjoyment that most of us can’t resist.

To ensure you get the best from your candles there are a few simple rules to follow. With the help of our friends at Palm Beach Collection, we share with you these few simple rules for caring for your candle so you can enjoy them safely.

Keep wicks trimmed – Be sure to trim your wicks and stand them upright. Our friends at Palm Beach Collection recommend trimming your wicks to 5mm before each burn for an even and safe burn. Untrimmed wicks will cause smoke and soot and may burn too close to the glass which is a safety hazard. The best and easiest way to keep those wicks trimmed is with a wick trimmer.

Don’t touch the glass during or immediately after a burn – The glass will be very hot. Do not touch or move your candle when in use as this is a safety hazard.

Where to burn your candle safely – Think safety first. Place your candle on a heatproof surface and avoid burning your candle near draughts, children, pets and flammable items. Never leave a burning candle unattended and don’t leave them burning while you are sleeping.

How to extinguish your candle safely – Simply blow it out softly. Never use the lid or water to put out your candle as this is a safety hazard.

How long should you burn your candle – At a minimum you should burn your candle for 1 hour. This sets the memory for your candle. Allow your candle to burn for at least one hour so the wax melts to the edge of the glass. This will ensure that you avoid a crater forming which will reduce the life of your candle. Maximum burn time can vary depending on the size of your candle. Palm Beach Collection recommend burning their Standard & Deluxe Candles for no more than 3 hours. Over burning your candle is a safety hazard.

When should you replace your candle – Once your candle burns down to about 10mm of wax remaining in the glass, it’s time for a new candle. Over burning your candle in this way is also a safety hazard.

Care for your candle – Keep your candle in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. To keep your candle in great condition replace the lid or cover it in an elegant cloche, once it’s fully extinguished of course. This will help keep your candle dust-free and the fragrance strong.

Every brand of candle may be different so be sure to read the label and follow the makers guidelines so you can get the most out of your candle.
